Italy or bust

Vanessa just finished her 2nd year at the community college. We have saved like fiends and we have had many people contribute to the cause. So now it is on to Rome! Thanks everyone. Since I am very late with this post I will just say this. She made it to Italy. She wrote a blog while there so I am just going to post them all to this page. What a trip.

24 HOURS AND COUNTING

There are many different quotes that talk about traveling the world. One of which says, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine, being an English major this was the quote that stuck out the most.  Traveling is a story, there is a story to listen to when you travel, and every country has a story as well as every person. My story began months ago from the love and support that my friends and family gave me when I started talking about going on the amazing adventure I’m about to endure. Many people aren’t lucky enough to get to have the experience that I will be having in less than 24 hours, but fortunately with all the support I have found myself to be incredibly lucky. Two countries, multiple cities, and all within a month.
The most popular question that people ask me is “are you excited?” and the answer to that is of course I’m excited, but I am also a lot of other emotions. There is no way to properly explain how I feel, I’m ecstatic, happy, grateful, sad, and extremely nervous; but don’t get me wrong I am jumping out of my skin with excitement. My bags are packed and already sitting next to the door, my room is clean, I’ve said my goodbyes and I am ready to get on that plane and experience a completely different culture…and let’s be honest, the food!
These last few weeks have flown by waiting for the day where I pile into the car with my bags and my family and set off to the airport and then my nine and a half hour flight. Ever since I was little I have wanted to travel, the first real time I had my heart set on traveling was when I was in middle school and all I could think about was how badly I wanted to go to Paris. Where the notion came into my head that Paris was the place I wanted to go so badly, I don’t remember; but although I’m not going to Paris I would say that London and multiple parts of Italy are right up there with it.
This final week has been the craziest, jammed packed with friends, chores, family, and everything I could possibly do before I left that I would miss while I am gone. But I am not going to lie, I have been procrastinating. Posting this was the last step to really show that I was on my way, that I was headed out of the country and on my own for a good chunk of the summer, so what no better time to post then less than 24 hours before I’m flying over the Atlantic Ocean. When I finally get to get off the plane I will be landing in the beautiful city of London, where I will be staying for the next three days, and in those three days I have countless amounts of things I want to do and see while I’m there. So that being said, I am going to hit the hay – but one bigger thank you to all of the people that have helped make this dream a reality. Wish me luck!

She Did It!

Mid August and it has been a very busy summer so far. Graduation was great. She will begin her 2nd year at the community college this fall. Onward and upward!
